Artist’s Statement
I write teleplays and screenplays that are comedic but never mean-spirited, touching but never sappy. I believe in the creation of media that is positive at its core, if also not a little R-rated. There is so much more I could say, but: Woman, mother, dreamer. Those are the things that influence the work I aspire to make. There is a huge wave of content happening right now that’s centered around women protagonists, and in turn, audiences are finally getting a chance to see real representations of the wide spectrum femininity on screen. There is someone out there for every woman to relate to — and if there isn’t one yet, there should be.
I certainly can’t speak for all women and all women writers, but I can speak for what it is to be imperfect and live an imperfect life. For me, for most of us, that’s where the story is. Not in the glossy veneers and the posturing, but in the cracks. Those glimpses of the imperfections within all of us that we desperately want to hide, but always require to be seen despite our insistence otherwise.
